Future of Aussie Rules in England Looking Bright
In what was a great day for Aussie Rules football in the UK, the Huddersfield Rams took on the Wolverhampton Wolverines in a game that featured 30 players from the UK and a grand total of zero Australians. It was a cracking game with the Wolves taking a two goal lead into the last quarter. The Rams came home strongly though with five last quarter goals, giving them a 7 point win.
The top-2 clash between Nottingham and Manchester looked like it was going to be one way traffic with Manchester slamming home seven unanswered goals in the first quarter. The rest of the game was a top quality tussle with Nottingham closing the gap many times but never quite getting within striking distance. Manchester ended up winning by just under seven goals, showing that they are deserving of the top spot. Nottingham though are not a spent force, winning the final three quarters 67-63.
Down in Bimingham the Bears took on Leeds in a game that would be vital to both teams finals chances. Birmingham took their chances in front of goal and finished with a 5-goal win. The Bears fielded a full English squad which again bodes well for the future of the sport in this country. Leeds are still in the hunt though, sitting out of the final 4 only by percentage.
The ladder has taken an interesting complexion with Wolverhampton clinging to 3rd place but with all four teams behind them capable of stealing their spot due to the Wolves having the bye this week. Manchester are now well clear on top and Nottingham are a clear second with a game and percentage separating them from Wolverhampton.
