Rounds 2 & 3
Round 2 saw Manchester host a double header, with Sheffield taking on Wolverhampton and Manchester taking on Nottingham. In the other game it was the West Yorkshire Derby with Huddersfield hosting Leeds.
In an even encounter Sheffield and Wolverhampton were on level pegging in the third quarter when the Wolves had a player sent off. From there Sheffield took over and ended up comfortable 6 goal winners. In the second game Nottingham forfeited due to lack of numbers which handed Manchester the win.
In a high quality match at Huddersfield the Premiership favourites Leeds won a close game by 15 points. Underdogs Huddersfield played 3 quarters of good football but had a poor third quarter which shifted the momentum Leeds’ way and gave them the lead they held onto in the end.
Round 3 saw Sheffield host the double header as they took on Leeds, with Nottingham playing Wolverhampton. Birmingham hosted Huddersfield in the single match.
In a huge upset the young Wolverhampton squad knocked off the Scorpions by 3 goals. If they had kicked more accurately the win could have been bigger. With Nottingham hosting the League Lightning Round next week they’ll be looking to regroup and climb back up to their usual position at the top end of the ladder.
Leeds were far too strong in the second game in a high scoring encounter with Sheffield. With two of their players kicking 8 goals each, an 80+ point win showed they will be tough to beat this year.
Birmingham had a big win over the travelling Huddersfield side which will give them huge confidence going into Round 4.
The detailed ladder will be updated in the coming days but as it stands after Round 3 the ladder is:
